148,000 Needed in Job Market

The other day, 25 enterprises from Ningbo held a recruitment fair in Wuhan. These enterprises wanted a total number of employees of more than 1200. graduates majoring in mechanics, builiding, marketing, designing, management, environment engineering and medical science were rather popular. It is said that more than 850 graduates expressed their willingness to work with enterprises after graudation. In recent months, enterprises found it difficult to find employees and decided to find employees in foreign provinces. Statistics from Employment Management Service Bureau of Ningbo shows that more than 10 recruitment fairs has been held in foreign provinces, which is quite another story compared with what it was in last year.

“It’s just like a dream. We have too many orders to finish. We are in great need for employees.” Said Mr. Fang, a clerk who is responsible fro human resource in a furniture company. Fang said that their products were mainly for export and some were sold in domestic market. In the first half of the year, due to the financial crisis, they received much less orders than that in last year and their products could only be stored in their warehouses. Coming to the second half of the year, they found the situation was greatly changed. The order in the last three months were more than those in the first eight months. They had too many orders to finish. For recent months, his only job became recruiting employees from job fairs. His goal was to find 70 experienced workers and designers. So far he had only finished half of his goal. In recent half month, he recruited another 20, but still he had to finish the rest of the goal.

An official from Employment Bureau of Ningbo says that, due to the financial crisis, the second half of last year saw many employees lost their jobs and went home to find the jobs because local govenments provided favorable policies for them. Another reason there were not so many employees was that Western Development had attracted rather a lot of enterprises and employees to stay with West China.

Chen Quanya, a professor from Business College, NBU, said that the financial crisis and national policies had reulted in great changes in the employment market. Chen said, “It’s hard for us to say that the global economy will recover, but it seems that the situation in Ningbo is becoming better and better.” Chen added that with the recovery of economy, there will be a difficult time in which employees are greatly needed.
